Pastor Raymond Doser - Lovilia, IA
Raymond Doser was born at Kellerton, Iowa, and grew up attending Kellerton Public School which became part of Grand Valley Community School when he entered high school. He graduated as Salutatorian in 1962. Raymond had served as Secretary and President of the Future Farmers of America Chapter, and he was awarded the Iowa Farmer Degree. He was active in sports and vocal music during his school years. Raymond married his high school sweetheart, Dola Mercer, and they took over the family farm at Kellerton. They had four children – Rodney, Barbara, Joseph, and Renee. They are now grandparents of ten.
In 1985 they left the farm and Raymond entered the ministry. He served multiple-church charges over the years, all of which were east of Interstate 35, and mostly in the southern part of Iowa. Raymond has served on various District committees, and has served as Chairperson of the Archives and History Commission as well as the Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns Commission for the Iowa Annual Conference, and he had been a member of the Board of Camps and Retreat Ministries. He is an active member of the National Fellowship of Associate Members and Local Pastors. Raymond was ordained a Deacon and became an Associate Member in 1992.
Raymond is a graduate of Clinton Community College and the University of Iowa. He completed the Five Year Course of Study for pastors at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary prior to his Ordination, and he has since completed the Advanced Course of Study at Emory University (Candler School of Theology) at Atlanta, Georgia. Raymond has taken additional course work at St. Paul’s School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri. His Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) was done at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.
Raymond Doser had retired from ministry at the end of December in 2011. He and Dola had purchased a home in Lovilia in 2009, and he and Dola had become a part of the congregation of this church upon his retirement. Due to some parish changes, there was an opening for a part-time pastor in the summer of 2013, and Raymond was appointed to that position.
Pastor Raymond Doser would like to invite you to worship with the congregation of the Lovilia United Methodist Church, at 10:00 on Sunday mornings. We also have special services at times (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, etc.). Sunday School meets at 9:00. An active United Methodist Women group meets the first Thursday of the month. Bible studies are scheduled at various times. An after-school program is available for youth from Kindergarten through Junior High, generally in two sessions of six weeks – one in Spring and one in Fall.
