> Steve & Lisa Gilkerson. Condolences to the family of Mike Gilbert, whose funeral was yesterday.

> Norma B. and Fred & Goldie K. reported the births of

> great-grandchildren in their families. Linda Weldon has been moved to Wesley Acres, 3520 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.  She is scheduled to get more therapy there than she has received at the Pella facility.  The move took place yesterday.

> Norma B. reported a good vision check-up;  Judi J. reported improved

> breathing;  Goldie K. to have a test this week; others in congregation & community need our prayerful support. Several youth are starting new chapters in their lives, such as attending college.  Fred & Goldie K. had been on a trip to help a grandson locate in Rapid City, SD; Dola and I helped move some items to UNI, Cedar Falls, yesterday for our granddaughter Taylor;  Lola I. reported that Libby Bakalar is to begin classes at DMACC, Ankeny.  There are others from our congregation and community who are starting or continuing their college careers.

Updates 6/12/16

CONDOLENCES to family and friends of Virginia Weldon, who died on Wednesday.  There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Sinnott Funeral Home in Lovilia.

Phil L. has had an MRI and is to have surgery in the near future.  

Others in the church, community, and in our extended families have been recovering from illnesses and injuries.  Keep them all in your prayers. TODAY -- A special program featuring the Iowa Military Veterans Band at the King Opera House, beginning at 1:30 p.m.  The doors are to be open at noon.  Hospitality and refreshments at the First Christian Church nearby to follow.


Updates 4/3/16

Norma Jean S. to have surgery soon;  Virginia W. has continuing concerns;  Judy C. got a good report from recent blood work;  Judith McMillan spent much of last week in the hospital;  Judi J. posted on Facebook that she has another sinus infection and an inflamed left ear. 

Calvin C. thanked the congregation for prayers for his sister;  Keep the family of Bev Shafranko in prayer -- visitation today and funeral tomorrow.

Updates 3/6/16

Nile Cook is very ill and may have only a few days left.  Connie B. sister Karen is doing better.  Dana -- daughter of Bill & Connie B. -- is getting a job in Clinton, IA.    Merlin N. reports improvement in shoulder.  Marilyn K. son-in-law in D.M. hospital.    Norma B. reports that a sister-in-law -- Hazel Baker -- has severe eye problems.    Bev Shafranko reported to be in D.M. Mercy hospital.  

Some of you may know of Joey Feek, who performed music with her husband, Rory.  She died Friday, at 40.  They recently recorded an album of hymns, which has topped the Billboard Top Country Album chart.  Condolences to family and friends.


Updates 2/7/16

Gloria O. apparently did not have the surgery we expected;  Judi J. has been cleared for surgery, but unable to schedule it till 2/18.  Friend of Bill B. may have pancreatic cancer.  Sarah (granddaughter of Lois Behrens) has cancer and is starting chemo -- may have surgery & radiation later.  Marina Amos has had radiation and started chemo -- to have chemo every 3 weeks.  Kenny Williams, Albia, has been in Des Moines hospital.  Others in congregation, community, & extended families also need prayers.  Debby C. (Stewart family) had a brother die this week.

Medical:  Norma Jean S. to have back surgery;  Judi J. had her sinus surgery postponed, and is facing more tests;  Sheila L. to go to Dr. tomorrow for review of shoulder progress;  Merlin N. has the brace off his arm now. 


Updates 1/17/16

Virginia W. -- ongoing health issues, Judy C. -- severe cold;  Judi J. -- sinus surgery on Thursday;  Calvin C. has a sister with cancer concerns -- Marina Amos of Albia;  Merlin N. has a doctor appointment on Tuesday and hopes to be able to put aside his arm sling.  On the plus side, Pam C. reports that a genetic test indicates that she is not a carrier of genes that she had feared.  May all these folks recognize God's presence and care with them! 


Updates 11/22/15

Debby C. says Teresa to have last chemo treatment this week.  Bill B. says Lyle Cook is very ill & in Minnesota.  Phil L. had cataract surgery last week.  Sheila L. is in Albia hospital with blood clots.  Norma Jean S. had back set, but getting better.  Judy C. says granddaughter Alisa has concerns of flu while pregnant.  Bill Henderson has been hospitalized.  Hope everyone weathered the storm okay.  Josephine Lindberg died yesterday -- keep family in prayer. 


Updates 11/15/15

Prayers have been requested for Norma Jean S. for continuing health issues.  Linda W. says granddaughter Emily having some health issues which required a  visit to an emergency room.  Others are recovering from various medical issues.  Rev. William "Bill" Ballard, a retired pastor still active in our district and conference, died (Friday?).  No word on services yet.

Linda W. said their grandson Daniel had his appendix removed & recovering.

Angie K. indicated her mother in Germany is responding well to a different medication for Parkinson's.

Sheila L. sent word that Phil L. to have cataract surgery on Thursday, and Gary L. is to have a medical procedure. 
Norma B. is to have a follow up appointment this week (today?). 
Merlin N. will have an exam on his shoulder soon. 
Fred K. asks for healing prayers for a place on his face. 
Scott H. has had shoulder surgery or will soon. 
Angie K. says her parents (in Germany) are doing as well as can be expected.

Condolences to Leroy Hogeland and family, on the death of his wife.

Norma B. thanked the congregation for prayers;  Merlin N. had a good report from his checkup;  Norma Jean S. has continuing health issues;  Virginia W. back with us;  Linda W. reported her grandson is recovering from the skin injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident;  Harold Showers is battling cancer. 


Updates 9/27/15

Teresa (daughter of Debby & Bill C.) thanked the congregation for their prayerful support during her struggles.  Judi J. had visitors from California who were with her. 

Those recovering from surgery or other health issues include, Norma B., Norma Jean S., Sheila L., Merlin N., and Don S.  May each recover quickly and fully!  Also, Linda W. reported that her grandson Daniel had a motorcycle crash, and was skinned up.  She expressed thanks that he was not hurt worse.


Updates 9/13/15

Norma B. to have hip surgery Monday;  Sheila L. fell yesterday & may have broken arm bone near shoulder - appointment on Tuesday to deal with that;  Merlin N. is recovering from back injuries and was with us today. 

Our church received a certificate from the Board of Camps for participation. 

It seemed that the Fall Festival yesterday was successful.  Thanks to those who helped to have a Noah's Ark float in the lighted parade.  Goldie K. was one of the parade marshals - Norma B. had declined due for personal reasons.  (The Senior Meal Site was also represented in the parade.)


Updates 8/16/15

Don S. recovering from hip surgery;  Louita W. had recent gall bladder surgery; Judi J. to have tests early this week.  All would welcome prayers. Pray for the staff at Wesley Woods and the Conference leadership that oversees the camp programs, in light of the recent arrest there.


Updates 8/9/15

A suicide in the community on Thursday (Brent Kingery) has impacted some of the children from our VBS and after-school program.  Please pray for the family of Samantha Nichols and other relatives and friends as they experience this difficult time. 


Updates 7/26/15

Bill & Connie B. -- Bill has a check-up soon, and Connie to be evaluated for cause of recent seizures.  A daughter found out her nanny job will soon be ending.  Another daughter still having issues caused by broken foot. 
Virginia W. -- Has another treatment tomorrow. 
Gayle H. -- To have an MRI this week. 
 Don S. -- Got home on Friday; recovering well from hip replacement. 
Sheila L. reports that David Jamison back to work at least part-time. 
Pastor Ray's daughter -- Barb -- is visiting from Illinois this weekend. 
The youth football camp is to be held in Albia this week -- hoping for cooler conditions.  Hoping recent cloudbursts will give way to better weather. 
The Showers family benefit in Albia seemed to go well last night. 

Updates 7/19/15

Don Shelford had hip surgery Thursday, and remains at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines;  David Jamison continuing to recover from broken leg / knee replacement;  Sheila L. reports Gary continuing to recover from hip injury & they had a safe trip to visit him;  Judy Conner recovering well.  Prayers requested for Virginia Weldon.  There will be a benefit for the Showers family at Albia on Saturday, July 25. 


Several young folks from the Lovilia area will be attending the JOY Camp at Camp Wesley Woods, Indianola, this week. 

Bill reported that the bottle and can drive yesterday for the Fall Festival on September 12 went well.  We hope that the other preparations go equally well. 

Updates 7/12/15

Angie Geno and Nile Cook and Gary Lundstrom have all received favorable news regarding medical tests and treatments.  Don Shelford to have hip surgery this week; Evelyn Allison has a broken hip;  Judy Noe dealing with cancer.  All would welcome prayers.  Keep the Selby family in prayer following the death of Richard. 

Dola and Pastor Ray enjoyed their trip to the Pacific Northwest, and are glad to be back home


Updates 6/28/15

Judy Conner's eye surgery reported to have gone well.  Connie Barnes no longer has her arm in the sling and seems to be healing well.  Don Shelford scheduled for hip surgery on July 16.  Gary Lundstrom continuing to have tests and consultation with specialists.

Updates 6/21/15

Request for prayers for Judy Noe.  Hopefully no one severely impacted by the storms that went through the area yesterday.  Some had electricity out for a time.  Leroy Hogeland introduced his wife, Ann. 
Tuesday -- Connie Barnes to meet with orthopedic doctor about her broken arm.
Wednesday -- Judy Conner to have eye surgery; Don Shelford to consult with surgeon about hip surgery. 

Pray for the Vacation Bible School to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Plans are well underway, but a few helpers are still needed.  Call me if you would like to help, or if you know someone who can.  (946-7320 or 660-0295). 

Pray for Kevin and Jill Leveck, who are moving.  Kevin is on disability and Jill will be serving 3 churches again.

Updates 6/14/15

Connie B. is dealing with a broken arm bone near the shoulder.  May take 6 to 8 weeks to heal.  Dana, daughter of Connie & Bill B. is recovering from a broken bone in her foot.  This is preventing her from working, and she had recently changed jobs, which is a complication.  Her recovery may take a few months. 

Debby C. said that Teresa has received good news form her recent scans.  Chemo is nearing completion, and radiation may begin soon. 

Sheila L.  says that Gary is awaiting results of a recent MRI. 


Updates 5/31/15

Connie Barnes fell Saturday and broke an arm close to the shoulder.  She has an appointment with a specialist in Des Moines tomorrow. 

David Jamison -- nephew of Phil & Sheila L. -- fell and broke a leg bone on Memorial Day.  He is currently in a hospital, but expects to be released within a day or two.  He is likely to need 8 weeks of recuperation. 

An air ambulance (helicopter) apparently was in or near Lovilia yesterday.  There was a fatal accident in Albia within the past few days.  Please pray for these concerns. 

Judy Conner reports that her bone marrow tests have been negative, which is good news. 

Emily Flahive is enjoying her time in Nome, Alaska. 

Judi Johnson has a granddaughter from the Dallas, Texas visiting her, and will be spending time with other family members.  We need to praise God for these joys and others we may have.


ngratulations to area graduates from high school & college, including Jessica (Ed & Linda W. granddaughter) at UNI.  Congratulations to Albia and other area athletes who will be participating at the State Track Meet at Drake on Thur. - Sat.


Emily Flahive (Ed & Linda W. granddaughter) will be going to Nome, Alaska on Thursday as a traveling nurse until the end of August.  May she have safe travels and a wonderful experience. 

Theresa (Bill & Debby C. daughter) nearing end of chemo treatments.  Don S. is anticipating a hip replacement soon. 

Pastor Ray's daughter Barb from Illinois visited.

The Trustees have had the church air conditioner inspected and serviced, so come to worship on hot days!

CONGRATULATIONS to Melinda Kimball on graduating from UNI yesterday. 
CONDOLENCES to family and friends of Bo Clyde Gullion, whose funeral was yesterday at Bussey UMC. 
There were several people mentioned with health issues at Sunday School.  I am not sure I have a complete list, so they are not listed.  Keep those you know about in prayer. 

Updates 4/26/15

Judy C. had eye surgery postponed due to a severe cold.  She said that the Iowa Gymnastics group (a granddaughter is on the team) placed first at Regionals contests. 

Health issues / prayer requests:  Norma Jean S.;  Virginia W.;  Bill B.;  others in community and our extended families that we know of.  Angie K. reported her father recovering well from surgery.

Drake Relays completed but do not know how area athletes placed -- congratulations to all who competed. 

Des Moines Register printed a special academic section today, with top high school students from around the state listed.  Congratulations to all those, and to others who have done well in their studies this year. 

Proms are nearing completion;  graduations approaching.  Hope all goes well. 


Updates 4/19/15

Many proms have taken place, some still scheduled.  Graduations from colleges, trade schools, and high schools will be taking place in coming weeks.  Congratulations to those who have accomplished this success!

Henry Showers funeral was Saturday; keep family in prayer. 

Norma B. reported that a granddaughter will have surgery tomorrow;  also a new great-grandson in her family.  It was reported that Judy C. is scheduled to have a corneal transplant on Wednesday.  Marilyn K. not feeling well today.  Others have coughs, etc. 

Goldie K. attended a UMW Mission Study in Knoxville Thursday -- says it was good.  I attended a clergy meeting in Oskaloosa Thursday -- worthwhile. 

Pastor Ray had said at Sunday School that a niece -- Lori Mercer of Kellerton -- would be leaving for a medical mission trip to South Africa at the end of the month.  He was off about 2 months -- she is scheduled to leave on June 26.

Health concerns:  Norma Barnes has had a reaction to some medications;  Bill Barnes is awaiting results from some tests;  nephew of Lundstrom's -- David Jamison -- has had knee replacement;  Goldie Kraber's sister -- Dorothy Pottorff -- has some major decisions to be made;  Dola Doser's cousin -- Lee Messner of Missouri -- had a son die Saturday.  Goldie Kraber's brother -- Duane Walter -- had funeral Friday. 


Updates 4/5/15

Judy C. reported that her cataract surgery went well.  Don Shelford was at the emergency room during the week.  Connie B. has a sister who is experiencing eye problems. 

Condolences to the family and friends of John Johnson, whose funeral was yesterday at the Trinity UMC in Albia.  Thanks for all who provided food and work for the luncheon.  

Fred & Goldie K. reported that a brother of Goldie's -- Duane Walters -- died yesterday.  Condolences to them. 

You may be aware that Rev. Robert Schuller -- a native of Iowa -- recently died at age 88.  Bishop Julius Trimble has sent Easter greetings to all churches in our Conference. 


Updates 3/29/15

Condolences to family of John Johnson, who died about noon on Friday.  His funeral is to be at Trinity UMC in Albia on Saturday, 4/4 at 2:00 p.m. 

Judy C. will have cataract surgery on Wednesday. 

Gayle H. reported that Betty Baker is in a hospital with back problems. 

Debby C. reported that a brother has back problems. 

Sheila L. reported that a couple of relatives & friends are experiencing some health issues. 

I think I heard at Sunday School that Bill B. had some positive results from medical tests.

A grandson of Fred & Goldie Kraber is on an Oskaloosa Robotics Team that has advanced to competition in St. Louis next month.  They had placed second of 72 entries in the latest meet. 

Merlin Newman reported a daughter will be teaching at Chariton next year. 

Our daughter from Illinois -- Barbara -- is visiting us this weekend and was in worship today.

Keep John (& Judi) Johnson, Virginia Weldon, and Don Shelford in your prayers.  Bill Barnes is scheduling tests; Connie B. has a brother who will have surgery in Iowa City on Tuesday.  Sheila L. reports a friend has health issues and is needing prayers.  There will be a benefit supper and auction for Nile Cook in Ottumwa on Saturday, March 28.

Ron & Judy Conner have a granddaughter doing quite well in gymnastics this season.  A member of the church has a relative who has received a significant scholarship, but not wanting to have it revealed at this time.  Others have been mentioned as doing well academically and athletically. 

Congratulations to Iowa State as Big 12 Champions for second year (men's team).

Gary L. still having tests and medications;  Debbie C. says Teresa & family having some difficult situations due to cancer & treatments.  Virginia W. & John J. should remain in our prayers, along with any others we know about.
